Built in 1960 to commemorate 500 years since the death of Henry the Navigator, the monument is a
splendid celebration of the Portuguese role in the development of relations between Europe and the rest
of the world. Designed by architector Kottinelly Telmo, sculptures by Leopoldo de Almeida.
